This guide explains how to build a safe shortlist, verify recognition and prepare documents. Admission criteria, foreign-seat availability, fees and deadlines can change each session, so every application must be confirmed through current official sources.
Who counts as an international or overseas applicant?
“Foreign student,” “foreign national” and “overseas Pakistani” are not always interchangeable admission categories. PM&DC’s current FAQ describes eligibility conditions for foreign/self-finance quota seats, including nationality or overseas residence and qualifications obtained outside Pakistan. The admitting authority may request evidence of nationality, residence and education.

How to verify a medical school
- Search the PM&DC institutions and qualifications directory.
- Match the institution’s exact name, city, public/private status and programme.
- Check the current seat category and admitting body in the official prospectus.
- Confirm the awarding or affiliating university and the attached teaching hospital.
- If you intend to practise outside Pakistan, ask the licensing authority in that destination whether the degree and your individual pathway meet its rules.
A university’s marketing statement, an education agent’s assurance or an old international directory entry is not a licensing guarantee.
Academic qualifications and IBCC equivalence
Applicants educated outside Pakistan may need an IBCC equivalence certificate for their secondary qualifications. IBCC requests complete academic records and may require proof of accreditation, transcripts, identity documents and certified translations. Requirements differ by education system.
Check the official IBCC equivalence requirements and begin early enough for verification.

- secondary-school certificates, transcripts and mark sheets;
- IBCC equivalence certificate where required;
- admission-test result accepted for the relevant category;
- proof of foreign nationality or overseas residence;
- application, fee receipt and category-specific declarations;
- medical fitness, visa or security documentation when requested; and
- certified English or Urdu translations for documents issued in another language.

Choosing between medical schools
- Clinical education: investigate the teaching hospital, patient exposure and rotation arrangements.
- Language: lectures may use English, but patient communication during clinical training may require Urdu or a regional language.
- Student support: ask about international-student services, accommodation, safety, orientation and visa support.
- Full cost: compare the foreign-seat fee and living expenses across the complete degree, including possible annual increases.
- Return-to-practice plan: check licensing requirements in the country where you intend to work before enrolment.
