HEC HAT Guide: Test Selection, Registration and Official Preparation Resources

Information checked: 21 October 2026.

The Higher Education Aptitude Test is administered through HEC’s Education Testing Council. Before registering, check which test your degree or scholarship actually requires: HAT, USAT-M and MDCAT are not interchangeable qualifications.

Which test does a medical student need?

Your objectiveWhat to check
Postgraduate study or scholarshipThe university/call’s accepted HAT or other graduate-test requirement
Undergraduate medical scholarshipThe specific call; Cuba’s 2026–27 medicine nomination used USAT-M
Medical/dental college admission in PakistanThe applicable PMDC or NUMS MDCAT requirement
Medical-related HAT preparationThe correct HEC category and official sample paper

For example, NUMS’s Fall 2026 postgraduate notice specified accepted graduate tests for relevant programmes. That is a programme-specific example, not proof that every medical course accepts every graduate test. The level of the degree and wording of the current call matter.

Official information: NUMS: Fall 2026 postgraduate test requirements — previous cycle; HEC: Cuba scholarship eligibility, funding and application FAQs.

Official samples and test categories

HEC’s sample-paper page separates HAT-MS and HAT-PhD overseas-scholarship samples and provides MS-category samples including Medical, Engineering, Management Sciences, Arts/Humanities and General. It also lists USAT Pre-Medical separately. Choose the sample matching the exact test shown in your application rather than relying on an old coaching label.

Before practising, check the sample’s section headings, question types and instructions. Avoid assuming a single subject distribution, pass mark or score-validity period applies to every scholarship and postgraduate programme. The admitting university and current call decide which result they accept.

How to register without missing a step

Use the ETC portal and its registration guide. Prepare your identity details and academic record, select the correct test/category, complete the requested fields and follow the current fee-payment instructions. Check that the application is submitted and payment is accepted; merely creating an account is not enough.

  • Match your name and identity number to your official documents.
  • Check the test purpose and category before submission.
  • Keep access to the email address and phone number used for registration.
  • Save your submitted application and payment reference.
  • Download the issued slip and check the centre, reporting time and required documents.

Dates: use the current ETC notice

The former July/August 2024 schedule has been removed from this guide. HEC has a revised 2026 test-calendar link, but its PDF could not be reliably retrieved during this review. Consequently, an exact remaining-2026 or 2027 date is not presented here as independently confirmed. Check the current calendar and the active test notice in ETC before arranging travel or paying.

Official information: HEC: 2026 test calendar, revised 25 August (PDF); HEC Education Testing Council: registration portal.

Keep separate reminders for test registration, the examination and the scholarship/university application. A test booked before a scholarship closes may still be unusable if the result arrives after that call’s permitted result deadline.

A focused preparation method

Begin with the correct official sample under timed conditions. Sort mistakes into vocabulary/reading, reasoning, quantitative skills or any subject component actually included in your paper. Spend the next study sessions repairing the largest weakness, then attempt another mixed set. Keep track of both accuracy and time.

For a reasoning error, write down the missing rule or assumption. For a quantitative error, redo the calculation with units and intermediate steps. For a reading error, identify the phrase that supports the answer. This turns a practice attempt into a revision plan rather than just a score.

Results, keys and scholarship applications

HEC’s results page publishes ETC answer keys and result links, including separate HAT test categories. Use the key matching your test date and paper/category. Retain the issued scorecard for applications; an unofficial estimate from a key is not the final result.

Official information: HEC: official ETC results and answer keys.

Passing an accepted test does not automatically apply you for funding. Complete the scholarship or university application separately and meet its academic, document and deadline requirements. For undergraduate medical funding, read the relevant scholarship’s test rules before choosing HAT.
